Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

I interned for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel during the Summer of 2017 in the digital media hub working on social media and online story telling. Click on the links below to check out my most notable work.

I interviewed comedian Charlie Berens, creator and star of the Manitowoc Minute internet show, for a multimedia online feature that also appeared in the Journal Sentinel’s lifestyle Green Sheet. I coordinated with Berens for a Journal Sentinel themed Manitowoc Minute episode that helped with social media reach of the story.

In mid-July I went to Burlington, WI for two days for on-the-scene when the area experience record breaking flood levels of the Fox River.

While reporting in Burlington I also went live on Facebook both days, which had the highest reach of any Facebook posts the Journal Sentinel had to date.

The videos also helped the Journal Sentinel Facebook page reach a record amount of people at 3.5 million, and the story was featured on 1A of the next day’s paper. reach paper

I often created stories that had a social media audience in mind, writing about posts that were trending the Milwaukee area on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

When I wasn’t writing news stories I was posting on the Facebook and Twitter pages for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. I would post according to their social media schedule that optimized best practices for getting reach on social media, while picking stories that would be insightful and interesting to a social media audience.
